Call for Applications: HER Voice Fund Ambassadors

Are you an adolescent girl or young woman (AGYW) aged 18 to 28 and living in Kenya or Zimbabwe? Are you passionate about making your voice heard and leading the way in decisions that shape the lives of AGYW? This is your chance to make an impact! The Global Network of Young People Living with HIV (Y+ Global) is recruiting new HER Voice Fund Ambassadors in Kenya and Zimbabwe.

Background

The HER Voice Fund (HVF) supports the meaningful engagement of adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) and youth-led community-based organisations in Global Fund and related policy and program processes in 13 countries where the number of new HIV infections among AGYW is the highest globally and where the disparity in HIV risk between young women and men is the greatest. The HER Voice Fund is supported by ViiV Healthcare Positive Action and the Global Fund and implemented by the Global Network of Young People Living with HIV (Y+ Global).

Recognising the critical knowledge and expertise of AGYW and the importance of ethical empowerment, meaningful engagement, and leadership of AGYW in decisions that affect our lives, we are seeking to recruit HER Voice Fund Ambassadors in Kenya and Zimbabwe.

The HER Voice Fund is anchored on HER Voice Fund Strategy, which aligns with the Y+ Global Strategic Plan 2022-2025 pillar one, Raise Our Voice, which focuses on strengthening accountability to ensure that laws and policies reflect the rights and needs of AGYW in all our diversity, including AGYW living with HIV, AGYW living with disabilities, those who identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, Queer (LGBTIQ+), AGYW in conflict-affected zones, those in rural areas, AGYW who inject/use drugs, AGYW who sell sex, pregnant AGYW, and young mothers.

Eligibility

  1. Must be an adolescent girl or young woman aged 18 to 28 residing in Kenya or Zimbabwe;
  2. Demonstrates passion and expertise in HIV prevention, SRHR, and general health;
  3. A self-motivated individual and dedicated team member eager to create impact;
  4. Proven experience in advocating for and addressing the unique needs of adolescent girls and young women and ensuring their meaningful engagement in HIV & SRHR responses;
  5. Understanding of local dynamics and established connections with networks and organisations focused on HIV, SRHR, and women’s health;
  6. Familiarity with national Global Fund processes is an asset;
  7. Willing to commit to a 2-year engagement with a minimum of eight days a month;
  8. Strong English proficiency required (both written and spoken);
  9. Competent in using computers and online communication tools, including reliable internet access and platforms such as Zoom, Google Meetings, or Microsoft Teams.

  • Collaborate with like-minded activists and advocate groups across the country and within the region, and gain experience in areas of communication, public speaking and networking.

HVF Ambassadors will receive an honorarium to compensate for their work and contribution to communication.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks

  1. Serve as the in-country representative for the HER Voice Fund, embodying its core principles and dedicating yourself to achieving our objectives.
  2. Lead the creation and execution of evidence-based advocacy agendas, respectful of human rights and transformative for gender, clearly communicating the needs and priorities of AGYW.
  3. Collaborate with the Country Lead to track country commitments and plans at both national and sub-national levels.
  4. Engage with grantees to offer support and enhance awareness of their initiatives.
  5. Advocate for the Fund in media outlets and share impactful implementation stories across various communication channels.
  6. Possibility of joining the Project Advisory Group to assist in the grantee selection process.
  7. Opportunity to attend regional and global meetings to voice the priorities of adolescent girls and young women in the HIV response.
  8. Provide reports on the activities of grantee organisations and contribute to progress reports for the HER Voice Fund.
  9. Report to the HER Voice Fund Coordinator at Y+ Global.

  1. A letter of interest not exceeding 300 words clearly explaining why you want to be the HVF Ambassador and your experience advocating or engaging with AGYW at the local or country level.
  2. A curriculum vitae (3 pages maximum)
  3. A recommendation letter from a reputable local organisation working with AGYW in your country.
