The Gender Equality Fund (GEF) grantees in Nigeria mark World AIDS Day 2025 with a call to urgently address the gender inequalities that heighten Adolescent Girls’ and Young Women’s (AGYW) vulnerability to HIV. With AGYW facing disproportionately high infection rates and persistent barriers to prevention, treatment, and decision-making, the statement urges government and stakeholders to strengthen gender-responsive HIV policies, increase domestic funding, and ensure meaningful AGYW participation in all stages of the HIV response. The GEF, led by Y+ Global, works with AGYW across six states to advance gender-transformative health approaches, and invites all partners to read and endorse the full statement.
