Youth Space

The generation equality Forum is a civil-society centered, global gathering for gender equality, convened by UN Women, and co-hosted by the governments of Mexico and France. Women's rights are the fundamental human rights that were enshrined by the United Nations for every human being on the planet nearly 70 years ago. These rights include the right to live free from violence, slavery, and discrimination; to be educated; to own property; to vote; and to earn a fair and equal wage.

Despite great strides made by the international women’s rights movement over many years, women and girls around the world are still married as children or trafficked into forced labour and sex slavery. They are refused access to education and political participation, and some are trapped in conflicts where rape is perpetrated as a weapon of war. Around the world, deaths related to pregnancy and childbirth are needlessly high, and women are prevented from making deeply personal choices in their private lives.

Tanzanian women and girls remain among the most marginalized and underutilized citizens in sub-Saharan Africa. Enabling gender equality and empowering women are critical to advancing progress and growth in Tanzania. Tanzanian women and girls must have greater access to and control over resources, opportunities, and decision-making power in order to sustainably reduce extreme poverty, build healthy communities, and promote inclusive growth. Women, who pay the highest price of unjust policies and patriarchal societies, must play a key role in order to bring about social change.

The energy and enthusiasm exhibited by the women during the sessions made me realise that everything can be done if we stand together and decide to fight for our rights. Women in all their diversity were all excited to make contributions on what should be done to achieve gender equality and increase participation of women in the community processes.

Attending the forum has widened my knowledge around issues on women participation in decision making process. More so, I came to realize that, if we want to achieve a certain goal then we should have a team chemistry to solve community issues: We must relentlessly challenge the social and cultural norms that increase to women’s vulnerability to violence, limited access to resources including health resources, and low engagement in economics. In this, a call to governments to do more to serve the needs of women by advancing and protecting their rights.
